there's been an increase in openbsd orders lately, i wonder why... two have personally thanked me for offering openbsd there aren't as many openbsd VPS since openbsd refuses to cooperate with LVM or whatever that other virt system is Xen VMware some others yeah it's odd that EC2 supports OpenSolaris before FreeBSD but that's just enterprise for ya sun insisted on that sun did the work ah and oracle just killed opensolaris or is about to the irony :) i wonder what kind of work is needed on the part of the OS to work in that type of environment. i wonder if freebsd will ever get it the tricky part is ensuring that you include their monitoring kernel yeah, too bad about opensolaris death I don't know exactly the details, but there's a bit of ensuring that your kernel responds to some "events" to allow EC2 to monitor your health so a stock Xen image won't do, even mechanically converted now, oddly enough, there are open-source "host an EC2 AMI" solutions already so you can run your own version of EC2 at home brb ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_(computing) up_the_irons: Have you been following the threads re: FreeBSD on EC2? I got myself on some mailing list a year or so ago and now they're looking for funding. But apparently they're having some difficulty getting it to work.
