ah we're located in Australia and the server is in la, it's much less latency from home -> arp -> wow. in tracert, there's much more hops+latency

yeah, definitely worth the wait :)
my company is renting two right now and they're both great, we came from vpslink which was a pretty bad experience from the start
faster servers, better pricing, better support, more customization
much more redundant too, we had so many outages with vpslink because their network would go down or power would go out
oooh, zfs on vps is a good idea
whenever i've played with zfs on freebsd i've ended up killing hardware ;/
i'm using zfs on one of our freebsd vps too
bob^^: weird, although the psu did go in my freebsd zfs fileserver... but that was due to the moisture in the air

yea
first time i applied it on top of a hardware raid card (raidz) and i lost/killed two disks
the controller wouldn't talk to them anymore

wait, you can do hardware raid z?
no - was using a dell 2850 with perc controller
had to set it up with each disk as it's own 'array'
and then applied raidz over the top of that
pull out a disk, push it back in, disk gets rejected forevermore :)

tbh i think it's more to do with the perc controller
they can be, um, 'sensitive' :)
shame they can't export each drive natively to the OS :(
