schmir has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds) dxtr: Hey, up_the_irons
Are there any specific settings in PuTTY I should activate to be able to use the console? bob^^: ?
as in to ssh to your vps? dxtr: (No, I've never used these console stuff before. All the VPS' I had before didn't hav this awesome option) bob^^: ahh
then nope dxtr: bob^^: no, I mean th vm management thingy bob^^: ah
well you kinda have two options i guess dxtr: Because I get an error about authentication methods, yadda yadda bob^^: you can ssh to the box and admin it just like any other
but if you want to see what's on it's monitor, you use vnc dxtr: Well, what did I just send in my public ssh key for? :) bob^^: or you can do a remote console if you send over your public key to support dxtr: I did send over my public key bob^^: :)
ok, so putty needs to know where the key is dxtr: But PuTTY keeps complaining
well, duh :) bob^^: tbh, i don't use putty with keys
i use securecrt
but if you want keys with putty i think you need pageant too dxtr: Actually, I don't, but I still use it bob^^: (at least you used to need pageant)
http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/0.58/htmldoc/Chapter9.html
looks like you still need pageant if you want to use putty + keys dxtr: pageant just stores the keys, decrypted, in memory or whatever (Just like ssh-agent)
But yes, I am using pageant bob^^: not sure then :)
securecrt always works great with keys for me dxtr: Well I've never had a problem with my keys either
And I'm always using keys
But.. I don't think my problem is with the key
As it complains about how there's no authentication methods available
If the server rejected my key it would say so
:) bob^^: this is true
i must admit i still haven't actually sent over my key :) DaCa: dxtr: that means it doesn't even try, did you configure your key under ssh > auth ? dxtr: DaCa: Yep DaCa: I would doublecheck, the putty UI isn't particularly intuitive when it comes to saving preferences dxtr: Well, I've checked both once and twice :)
Private key file for authentication: C:pathtomykey.ppk Nat_UB: Anyone moved to 7.3 with freebsd-update yet? RandalSchwartz: I started at 8.0 Nat_UB: I wouldn't do the 7.3 upgrade then :) RandalSchwartz: indeed
"we're past that" :) up_the_irons: RandalSchwartz: so you're only here until the 1st? thought it was a 3 month-er... RandalSchwartz: well - this run
I'll be back two weeks later up_the_irons: ah cool RandalSchwartz: basically 50% duty cycle up_the_irons: roger RandalSchwartz: so we should meeet up soon
since I'm bringing you business :)
and even more once I get stonehegne cut over up_the_irons: Yes :) RandalSchwartz: do you live in the area? I'll be goofing off mostly this weekend near the hotel up_the_irons: I want to show you my cage at the data center; we're wrapping up an expansion deal, to be done on the 15th of Apr. RandalSchwartz: in fact, except for wed night, I think I'll be spending my entire 3 weeks here within a few blocks of the hotel :) up_the_irons: RandalSchwartz: i live about 30 miles away from downtown LA
RandalSchwartz: which hotel u staying at? RandalSchwartz: maybe thursday after work then?
or next tuesday?
westin bonaventure
*the* hotel :) up_the_irons: LOLZ
that's true, it is *the* hotel RandalSchwartz: when you absolutely postively can afford to charge it to your employer... :) up_the_irons: yeah srsly RandalSchwartz: even at their corporate rate, it's $200/night
for that, I should be getting a "massage" each night :) up_the_irons: hahaha blovett: I bet they charge for every little thing too.
at that rate. RandalSchwartz: instead, I'm getting racked for $12.95/night for 1/2 megabit wifi blovett: word. :) RandalSchwartz: and yes, capped
not just "share"
it's capped blovett: 12.95$ here at the sheraton in reston, va. why can't they include this? It's not hard, or probably even that costly. RandalSchwartz: it's a profit center
they charge $2000/day for something that costs them $100/day blovett: it's still stupid. :)
I just wish I could have found my evdo card before I left..
or, I could try tunneling out using udp/53 :) RandalSchwartz: yeah, my phone tethers faster blovett: I did notice that requests were making it to my name server while I wasn't authenticated RandalSchwartz: just go to make sure not to exceed 5GB/month
oooh - IP/dns blovett: maybe I should setup openvpn or something on udp 53 :) RandalSchwartz: that's generally not enough blovett: yeah RandalSchwartz: it's usually recrusive calls
so you need full IP over DNS up_the_irons: RandalSchwartz: btw, evenings are bad for me; late morning or lunch time is better. 31st of March is open for me (Wednesday), we could do lunch, or w/e. Or we could set a date in April when you come back (and my cage expansion should be done) -: up_the_irons likes the tunnel out of udp/53 idea RandalSchwartz: doesn't work much
yeah - the problem is that I'm working for $client blovett: thankfully I'm expensing this.. :) RandalSchwartz: they demand my time blovett: I would probably do without internet if I wasn't up_the_irons: ah shucks RandalSchwartz: yeah - when I come back
I can't up_the_irons: i believe there is a small tunnel / vpn proggy made for tunnelling out of port 53 RandalSchwartz: I need something to sleep to. TV doesn't cut it jlgaddis: listen to floss weekly. that'll put you to sleep. ;) RandalSchwartz: it's amazing what you can do with socat and ssh up_the_irons: RandalSchwartz: is your current isp's site down or something? I can't get to: http://www.sprocketsolutions.com/
jlgaddis: OH SNAP RandalSchwartz: sprocket got merged
appliced something now up_the_irons: someone bought them? RandalSchwartz: applied solutions maybe up_the_irons: the other day i noticed "socat" backwards is "tacos".. am I late to realize this? blovett: haha RandalSchwartz: AppServe technologies blovett: no, I just notice it too. :) RandalSchwartz: ... http://www.sprocketnetworks.com/ up_the_irons: blovett: :)
RandalSchwartz: ah, then the link from stonehenge.com is wrong ;) RandalSchwartz: I never noticed that >:)
Yeah - I put the link up many years aago
it'll be fixed for yours when I move it tomorrow night up_the_irons: hehe
RandalSchwartz: does stonehenge.com get a lot of traffic?
"a lot", heh RandalSchwartz: ... http://www.stonehenge.com/pic/analog/stonehenge/
not a lot
6k/day up_the_irons: ah nice RandalSchwartz: in 1999, a lot more :)
