Hrm, according to the Support page you are using the method described at http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2317 for reverse ipv4, right? But as far as I can see it describes like 2-3 methods? :)
dxtr, 2-3 methods? You mean 2-3 different ways of declaring the records?
dxtr, example of how I do it. http://pastebin.com/UpiEdwm8 - it can be painful to setup the side that's delegated (so, arp in this case), but it's pretty easy for the end users.

we're getting some really weird issues and it doesn't seem to be happening on our side

we're hosting a DNS server on our box and we've probably got like 30 domains or so, some people aren't able to resolve DNS for some of the domains at times but are able to ping the IP of our server, it happened on my phone today as well
I was able to resolve aelatis.com (our dns server) but wasn't able to resolve picgarage.net (a jail on the same box), but could ping both IPs
yet others could resolve picgarage.net, so i was thinking that there may be an issue between the root DNS servers and our box, perhaps some of the root DNS servers think our box is down due to level 3 route failure?
not sure why root dns would get involved...  i mean, clients eventually ask your server for the resolution
root dns servers don't keep track of your box being up/down, they'll respond with what they know, either way
ah alright, I wasn't 100% sure on how they worked
amdprophet: yeah, i don't think they'd come into play in this situation
back to the drawing board and searching through logs
all in all, from what you have described, as you can imagine, there's a lot of things that could be going wrong, and it is hard to tell what
when you aren't able to resolve a domain, you could try a "dig +trace +<whatever other debug options you can find> <domain>"
to get a idea of what is going on

you have the ns1 and ns2 records on your side too?
your servers WERE returning ns{1,2}.aelatis.com for a bit
then it stopped and returned NXDOMAIN

you have recursion on
so ns1/ns2 was there due to recursion getting the record from the gtld servers
then when I did dig -t NS ns1.aelatis.com, the cache disappeared
ahhhh
so really the records should be added so that won't happen
just added them
should be all good now
now it resolves
I wonder if the border would be upset with me shipping everyone some Canadian beer
