anyone helps me? prowl: nakano: Instead of asking for help, it is generally productive to ask a specific question. What seems to be the problem? nakano: i'm going to upgrade my vps and i already contacted with support guy. but no response from the second email.. i just wanted to know what's happening..
i just sent a message to the support board again. ***: schmir has joined #arpnetworks

ChanServ sets mode: +o ballen ballen: oh hi mhoran: howdy. shmget: hi ***: jeev has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 245 seconds) shmget: anyone in here use openbsd? is it mostly used for routers, or do some use it for web hosting? mike-burns: A handful of us in here use it for Web hosting, though not myself.
It's quite secure by default and, of course, can serve Web pages just fine. shmget: between FreeBSD and OpenBSD, it is mostly a preference, right? I've used FreeBSD for probably 10 years now, but only dabbled with OpenBSD mike-burns: I mean, OS choice is mostly a preference. They're both unix and quite comparable. I stick with FreeBSD because it's what I know well. ***: visinin has quit IRC (Quit: yeah) shmget: are you one of the admins of arphosting mike-burns? mike-burns: I am not.
Just a loyal customer. shmget: its definitely the fastest BSD virtual host I've found mike-burns: It definitely has the most fun IRC channel. mhoran: Hah. up_the_irons: Had me ROLLIN': http://xkcd.com/705/ mhoran: Hah. ballen: best XKCD EVER up_the_irons: srsly, it is my all time favorite, without a doubt mike-burns: Heh. ballen: I need it in poster form
and shirt form up_the_irons: i want the shirt ballen: I have this in shirt form
http://xkcd.com/149/
hmm they're licensed CC Attribution Non Commercial
so you could just make a poster and shift
shirt Sue-sama: hey irons, pm? up_the_irons: Sue-sama: email support@arpnetworks.com Sue-sama: alright, but it was a quick question up_the_irons: Sue-sama: then ask
don't ask to ask
;) ***: ballen has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving...) Sue-sama: sorry, i've gotten shouted at about asking before
anyway, are there any provisions to grow a vps? ***: dja has joined #arpnetworks dja: anyone know how much extra disk space costs? ***: heavysixer has quit IRC (Quit: heavysixer) Sue-sama: >_> mike-burns: Yes you can grow a VPS, email support@ with how you'd like it changed and up_the_irons will change it ASAP.
I do not know how much things here cost, though. Sue-sama: thanks
it was just funny that someone comes in directly after me and asks the same thing mike-burns: Ha, yeah. Sue-sama: so far arp has been pretty good though, in terms of service and speed. I've been with linode forever and moving to arp I've gotten way better timings on all of my services.
one other question though was it said on the website that there was smp available, but /proc/cpuinfo states that i've only got one proc
is that extra? mike-burns: Looks like I only have one CPU too. That must be extra. dja: FreeBSD/SMP: Multiprocessor System Detected: 4 CPUs
:) Sue-sama: weird dja: its $2 per core I believe
I sent a support request for cost of extra disk space, trying to get a customer website down from their current usage of 16GB to 10GB Sue-sama: [ 0.150000] Brought up 1 CPUs ***: dja has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving)
