ToastyX: up_the_irons: how is disk space upgraded? is the partition resized, or does it require a reinstall?
up_the_irons: gregdolley: sounds like colloquy
ToastyX: resized
ToastyX: requires about 10 minutes of downtime
ToastyX: no data loss involved

??
RonnyBarber: hello
Nat_UB: Hello
toddf: pong
puppet: ;/
anyway i can get setup today?
-: puppet :P
toddf: if you put in a request today, typical response is that you'll get setup tonight during the maintenance window
puppet: i did it last night
at 2
i was refered
needing to get a www up
since my dedi is down
:)
toddf: note I don't work for arpnetworks so use their site in lieu of my advice, but putting in a response and such will get a setup sooner than w/out
puppet: nice
so whos the owner?
you can see me at www.fiber-hosting.com
:)
jeev: 100% daily fiber ?
i like your site but the dedicated page needs a smaller font or better spacing
puppet: yeah
my tab'er
was fucked up
:)

ballen: sup
jeev: have you tried vmware esxi
ballen: yea
jeev: good ?
ballen: if you like esx
jeev: never used any vmware products
ballen: super easy to use
jeev: what do you compare it to vs linux kvm
ballen: as far as performance ?
jeev: yea, stability too
ballen: very stable
haven't directly compared performance
jeev: hm
ballen: guessing about the same
esx may be faster
as they've been around for a longer time
jeev: i've got to test it
i need some stable stuff
and fast
ballen: only think with esxi is its pretty picky about hardware
thing*
jeev: oh
ballen: but if you have anything newish
it should run
jeev: i think it will run
ballen: def needs VT enabled CPU
jeev: i just can't trust myself with linux kvm, i tend to upgrade stuff even when it's not broke
ballen: yea
ESX should be pretty safe
I run ESXi 4 at work
haven't had an issue with it since I installed it last Aug
jeev: hm
how is it, install it, uses up the entire hard drive and you do the rest from ther e?
ballen: yea
basically
bare metal install
install it
set the ip
jeev: the free version should be good eough
as it only has 8 gigs of ram
ballen: connect to it with the console software
free version is fine
as long as you don't want to manage a number of servers at the same time
jeev: na
ballen: or migrate VMs between servers
jeev: ok
ballen: thats where Virtual Center comes in
jeev: do i need anything other than the cd iso
like client files / or i can web into it
ballen: just connect to the website
jeev: cool
ballen: and it will have the client to download
windows only
fyi
jeev: that's fine, i prefer windows ;D
hmm, the server is at the office but i can turn it on
i should back up everything and do it now
to test it.
ballen: mmk
jeev: booting iso in a min
sure is loading a lot of modules
but i have the iso mounted through lan
kind of slow i dunno
ballen: yea its the 2.6 kernel
***: dja has quit IRC ("This computer has gone to sleep")
jeev: how long did the install take you to BOOT ?
ballen: not very long
jeev: must be LAN i guess
ballen: used local though
jeev: wouldn't it be cool to go through a resident evil ty pe thing
with unlimtied ammo ?
unlimited
do you see independent disks ?
ballen: huh
jeev: dunnno
im installing now.
fbsd
ballen: oh independent disks... no, no reason todo that
jeev: running bench right now
heh
the 7.2 amd64 -smp 1 on kvm scored me 74.2
same thing here on esxi got me 74.4
overall unixbench-wht
but difference
74.3, sorry
