The switch from vim to gvim was a very major change in my life, as related to window managers.
It meant that I no longer spend all day in a terminal!
so why did you do it?
Better font options.
mike-burns: I use gvim in my simple tiling window manager. For better font options as you noted. I also like cut and paste better in it, a non trivial improvement. But I have all the menus turned off - the casual eye might mistake it for regular vim on first glance.
up_the_irons: in addition to liking my desktop pay careful attention to the details surrounding the commit you see me having made. bridgename.bridge0 -> hostname.bridge0 preceeded my commit in 4.6-current and now you no longer have to do 'up' unless you really need it, etc

mike-burns: I had issues with fonts an vim as well.  Fortunately, with urxvt, I found out how to configure xft fonts so if I want to go with a smooth anti-aliased font, it is there.  xft fonts are also used by gvim, so I essentially get the exact same "look" between vim and gvim

I got the compaq mini (hp mini in the us) because I found it to have the best keyboard
actually had a bit trouble convincing the seller at mediamarkt that I really wanted that one and not the 20 euro cheaper acer aspire one with double ram and faster atom chipset but crappy keyboard
 up_the_irons just finished moving a swack of stuff to that config. no surprises. very nice.

there are larger ones, but that's the largest I have in my xterm Xresources, there are only 6 slots  :)

mike-burns - I still use Mutt myself, and a web app when on the road; It appeals to me because I prefer to write with vim. Throw in abook for addresses and a little integration futzing and it does the job I need it to do.
too bad browsing is so click-friendly.
