mike-burns | The switch from vim to gvim was a very major change in my life, as related to window managers. | [06:19] |

mike-burns | It meant that I no longer spend all day in a terminal! | [06:19] |
*** | vtoms has left | [06:19] |
DaCa | so why did you do it? | [06:25] |
mike-burns | Better font options. | [06:39] |
schmir | schmir thinks vi is a pretty decent viper mode emulation | [06:41] |
mike-burns | mike-burns thinks emacs and vim are the clear winners of the editor wars and any other editor is a worthless imitation. | [06:46] |
DaCa | DaCa is happy with nvi in an xterm with terminus font | [06:51] |
sroute | mike-burns: I use gvim in my simple tiling window manager. For better font options as you noted. I also like cut and paste better in it, a non trivial improvement. But I have all the menus turned off - the casual eye might mistake it for regular vim on first glance. | [07:04] |

mike-burns | sroute: Oh yeah, I absolutely turned off the gvim menus, and mouse support. I forgot about the copy/paste support: "* is pretty excellent.
heavysixer: Been in here for months! Just another happy client. | [10:35] |
heavysixer | mike-burns: ha word
mike-burns: yeah Garry and I do pledgie.com together | [10:36] |
mike-burns | Awesome. Rumor has it that you use plugins that I sometimes maintain for that ... | [10:37] |
heavysixer | mike-burns: we have LOTS of thoughtbot plugins
if that's what you mean i think we use most of them except clearance and hoptoad | [10:37] |
mike-burns | Yeah that's what I mean. | [10:38] |
heavysixer | yeh. | [10:38] |
mike-burns | Hoptoad is pretty sweet, IMO.
If you have exceptions, which I'm sure you don't. | [10:38] |
heavysixer | mike-burns: never ;-)
mike-burns: yeah we looked at it since pledgie is a free service we can't afford hosted products yet :-) we get a free tender and lighthouse account that's why we have those otherwise we wouldn't | [10:40] |
mike-burns | There's a free Hoptoad account for one project. | [10:41] |
heavysixer | oh?
mike-burns: do you guys do datamining? are the exceptions private only to the project owner we filter sensitive params where possible but i worry about it sometimes. | [10:41] |
mike-burns | https://hoptoadapp.com/account/new - the free account has one project, two users, and a "rate limit" of 5.
We don't look at the data. Unless you report a bug, then we look at your username. | [10:42] |
heavysixer | gotcha | [10:42] |
mike-burns | We also filter passwords and CC info from your data as best as we can.
We really don't like that kind of responsibility. :) | [10:43] |
heavysixer | cool
yeah it's a business you don't want to get mixed up in that's for sure. | [10:43] |
mike-burns | We'd rather deal with DB and scaling issues instead of CC and law issues. | [10:44] |

up_the_irons | mike-burns: I had issues with fonts an vim as well. Fortunately, with urxvt, I found out how to configure xft fonts so if I want to go with a smooth anti-aliased font, it is there. xft fonts are also used by gvim, so I essentially get the exact same "look" between vim and gvim
DaCa: terminus font, eh? you should post a screenshot toddf: thanks for the "live action" commit ;) sroute: glad to hear the config is rockin! heavysixer: wait, u know mike-burns? | [13:19] |
