so can you compare 8.0 to 7.2 with unixbench ? d^_^b: anyone know how we get our vps upgraded? toddf: email support@ and state your demands
likely they'll reply with demands of funds, and both should be met d^_^b: if it was easy to upgrade I would probably go that route. toddf: presuming you mean upgrading the cpu/mem/disk resources of your vps d^_^b: toddf: oh no os upgraded
openbsd 4.5 -> 4.6 toddf: it requires some downtime obviously but it's practically a faq, yes upgrades happen, just expect to pay the new ratescale ;-)
you just get to do that yourself
people like me charge for that service if you want my fingers in your vps I'd be glad to send you a bill, otherwise I'll just say that you should have the ssh console setup and boot bsd.rd from 4.6 and read the www.openbsd.org/faq/ about upgrading and you should be golden
if you've sent a ssh rsa pubkey to support@ formerly you have ssh console access
also be aware 'config -ef /bsd' and 'disable mpbios' is required for your vps to not hang when it touches the serial port(s) after boot d^_^b: toddf: yeah up_the_irons sent me his blog post about that. toddf: such a long blathering article to cover the basic concept of 'disable mpbios' ;-)
but such is the nature of journalism, nomatter what the form, I guess ;-) d^_^b: toddf: the only reason I want to upgrade is so the user that is setup by arpnet is still present. ***: ballen|away is now known as ballen

dbgi has joined #arpnetworks dbgi: up_the_irons, you still get an ipv6 block with the 20$ vps and what 1 ipv4 ip?
nvm i found the info up_the_irons: dbgi: yeah dbgi: thanks up_the_irons: dbgi: but if you're an existing customer, you won't get another /48 IPv6, that would be excessive.
dbgi: you'd just share your existing /48 dbgi: thats not a big deal when you can make thousands of ipv6 ips from that up_the_irons: yup dbgi: this thats cool with me :) up_the_irons: dbgi: how many IPv4 IPs do u have now? dbgi: 13 up_the_irons: do you have some to spare? dbgi: yea up_the_irons: ok cool
wouldn't want to assign a 2nd single /30 to the existing subnet if u already have IPs dbgi: yea thats cool
we can use one of my 13 for the new vps, thats not a problem up_the_irons: great ***: ballen|away is now known as ballen

you can find like 40-50% off ballen: want a foam one
and I don't like that mattress jeev: ahh ballen: W == Westin ? jeev: the W ballen: ah nvm then jeev: its higher westin

personally!
hey when you have redundant power up_the_irons: LOL jeev: does the system use twice the amperage? up_the_irons: no jeev: or one stays idle up_the_irons: it divides it jeev: oh
i was thinking more of a failover up_the_irons: it simply divides it; i've done the measurements, never saw a redundant PS that didn't do that jeev: crazy
i dont trust redundancy..
just kidding, anyway
coffee without coffee mate or creamer is nasty up_the_irons: for one circuit to take all the load and fail over when it fails is more of like an ATS scenario
ATS's do that, and is more for when you have only single power supply boxes
