dja has joined #arpnetworks dja: up_the_irons, is there any cpu usage limit? ***: timburke has quit IRC (Remote closed the connection) up_the_irons: dja: i don't even know what that is ;) Like, do I meter clock cycles or something? dja: is there a limit to how much cpu usage someone can use, I know a lot dont like to "overload" the host system, so they dont let people use more than 10% cpu usage
I was also wondering if its possible to have multiple cores in the VPS, since I will be doing development with GCD up_the_irons: dja: no, i don't have any limit like that. You can use all of the single virtual CPU assigned to your VPS
dja: you can have multiple cores, yes; but i don't recommend it for OS's besides Linux, or if you're *very* familiar with FreeBSD and SMP
no SMP on OpenBSD VMs dja: well afaik only FreeBSD 8-STABLE has GCD support up_the_irons: dja: email support@arpnetworks.com to follow-up on adding more CPU cores. It's not very common, but some guys like sroute do SMP dja: ok
I have never used jails before, do they take up a lot of disk space? I assume it wouldnt change performance, I was thinking of having 1 for apache, 1 for software I am developing and 1 for a postgresql database ***: ballen_ is now known as ballen|away dja: 20GB of disk space seems very small when I look at my local install of FreeBSD which is already at 16GB with no jails vxp: lol@
16GB
for fbsd
qwat the kike are you even doing dja: that does include X + fluxbox, but still
I am using 9GB not including /usr/local ***: vtoms has joined #arpnetworks

dja has quit IRC ("Leaving") toddf: up_the_irons: not that I'd want it but, why no SMP for OpenBSD vm's ? OpenBSD has MP support.. vxp: `MP support' jeev: man, debugging voip is nasty
tracing sip, whatever up_the_irons: toddf: My understanding that w/o mpbios, you can't do multiple procs toddf: time to find out
I have real iron 4cpu system, no mpbios in sight
it would be easy to tell, just boot cd46.iso from 4.6 release or snaps and 's' to get to a shell and 'sysctl hw.ncpufound' ***: coil has quit IRC (farmer.freenode.net irc.freenode.net)

ChanServ sets mode: +o heavysixer sbp_: did my vps get turned off or is there some sort of problem? toddf: nothing reported here, mail support@ at the least, I've not learned the emergency down OMG fix my vps NOW NOW NOW routine, guess I should sbp_: k
i logged in to the out of band console and i see ad0: timeout - write dma and it seems just to be hung up
ill email in toddf: did you send a ssh rsa public key for access to the text control panel?
oh if you have access to that
and the system is unresponsive
aka you can't drop to ddb via control-e cl0
I'd just reset your vps, he can't do anything else either
access to the oob console with output confirms the linux kvm server your vps is on is up
just my opinion though, you do as you feel necessary ;-) sbp_: yah i can reboot the vps my self thru the panel? i dont see the option toddf: you got to the serial console right? up_the_irons: sbp_: you'll see info for the VM management console in the Portal, but if you haven't sent us an SSH pub key, you won't have access to it toddf: before you hit 'c' you have other options sbp_: oh no i havent send that havent really needed up_the_irons: sbp_: in which case, PM me your UUID and can reboot your VM if needed sbp_: ok toddf: sbp: are you using ssh or vnc? sbp_: vnc toddf: ah, you want ssh, much more functionality, cat .ssh/id_rsa.pub | mail -s "I am sbp!" support@arpnetworks.com sbp_: hehe ok up_the_irons: toddf: i'm gonna put that in my FAQ
;) toddf: ;-) ***: heavysixer has quit IRC ()
