dja: hey, is it possible to update a FreeBSD 7.2 VPS to FreeBSD 8-STABLE?
BarberRonny: i was wondering the same thing and yes why not. it worked in the past, too
i just fear alot of time spending in mergemaster
mhoran: freebsd-update ?
BarberRonny: Source-based upgrades (those based on recompiling the FreeBSD base system from source code) from previous versions are supported, according to the instructions in /usr/src/UPDATING.
or freebsd-update.
dja: I wasnt sure if it was allowed, I knew it was possible
BarberRonny: i think just cvsupdate all sources and make world
mhoran: You can do whatever you want with your VPS, for the most part. So long as it's legal. :)
dja: is there any limits on CPU usage?
mhoran: Haven't heard of such a thing.
up_the_irons is really the man to ask.

ballen: quiet channel lately
prowl: So it is usually more active?
sroute: from time to time
ballen: yep time to time
-: prowl nods
sroute: Feel free to start a conversation or ask a question or for an opinion, any time; most of us here are clients and there seems to be a broad mix in terms of what we are all doing

Nat_UB: Welcome Prowl
prowl: Nat_UB: thank you.
Nat_UB: Irons got you all hooked up? Arpnetworks is awesome
up_the_irons: prowl: your VPS is coming; been slower processing orders b/c of the weekend and the upcoming holidays
dja: up_the_irons: is there a limit to cpu usage?
prowl: up_the_irons: You're my hero. That's all I wanted to hear. Thank you.
toddf: up_the_irons: have a friend who's looking at arp networks, does nessus scare you?
aka if he wants to run scans _from_ his vm system
***: ballen|away is now known as ballen
ballen: toddf I'm guessing it would depend on where he was nessus scanning

i dont think anyone considers 20 bux a month for the amount of headaches that you could possibly get
constant abuse emails and what not

up_the_irons: toddf: if he's your friend, and you vouch for him, nessus is OK.
toddf: if I get a lot of abuse emails, that'd be another story; but i'm assuming he'd be scanning clients that he *told* he's gonna be scanning
***: up_the_irons sets mode: +o [FBI]
toddf: up_the_irons: not only clients he *told* but clients that would be paying him to do so
up_the_irons: toddf: roger that
sounds fine to me
toddf: now for both of us to recall this conversation when he gets around to it in 2-3 months .. he has a new kid as of the end of october, so his stated timeframes tend to slip a bit ;-)
up_the_irons: ah
they can be a handful
