Sure is quiet in here today! did you get to boot my kernel Not yet, been busy with projects. :( ah ok "I was not sure how set you are on 32 GB of Ram per system. The optimal memory config for 2 Nehalem processors is multiples of 6." -- Really? Nehalem has 3 memory channels, apparently? mhoran: DDR3 memory seems to come in multiples of 3 mhoran: i have a couple boxes w/ 5500's and they have 6 GB of ram. not 2, not 4, not 8. but 6 ;) Heh, yeah. Threw me off. why go 5500 when you could just go i7 isn't i7 desktop stuff i9 is supposed to be for servers who cares still runs elite so no ecc.. you could build a good supermicro for around 1500 12 gigs of ram too i7 920 Not building a system. Also, don't really want to ditch ECC. It's saved us from going down a few times. Half a rank goes down and the system stays up ... Totally worth the extra money. Systems still come in around 5-6k, which is the same as what it would cost if we built them ourselves. Plus we get support. 4 hour turnaround on dead drives saves us money. mhoran: who do you buy your systems from? well i wont make money off the server i want to build so i'm not gonna spend 6k i wanna see steven segal's show lol he's a sherrif or cop this is so pointless my kvm box is online but i'm not using it it's sort of a waste to use it since my kvm over ip is busted on it and .. i dont know if i'm gonna keep the server up_the_irons: IBM. lot of netsplits today *tonight Announcement: All functions of console.cust.arpnetworks.com are enabled now and ready for testing; not that I expect anyone to jump at the idea of hard shutting down your VM ;) you can shutdown (soft, ACPI), shutdown (hard), start (boot up), and connect to your serial port (serial-over-IP) hot heh to those who don't have access, just email support@arpnetworks.com your SSH pub key
