balen is now known as ballen ballen: got to be a better way to P2V FreeBSD then dump/restore
also Jail to VM
which dump does not work
use just tar for that jeev: what's p2v ballen: physical to virtual
moving hardware install to a vm jeev: ahh
how's your vps ballen: quite good jeev: waiting for mine to activate ballen: cool jeev: i have so many servers but i wanted a VPS ballen: yea basically the same deal, moved from Slicehost need something thats always on jeev: lol ballen: hah, meant for a comma in there
moved from Slicehost, ... ***: ballen is now known as ballen|away up_the_irons: syminet: hey, so it's sept. 1st, did they tell you if your x-conn was done? Like, do I need to go to the DC in the morning and plug in my side? :) ***: GenX has joined #arpnetworks

up_the_irons changes topic to: FreeBSD and OpenBSD VPS Special, 768 MB RAM, 20GB Disk, 200GB Bandwidth, $20 -- http://www.arpnetworks.com/vps up_the_irons: jeev: your welcome packet has been sent :)
I must say Debian 5.0 boots like a bat outta hell
super fast
noticeably faster than my Ubuntu VMs
ballen|away: bah, I commented on your lastest blog blog (IPv6 over OpenVPN) and I got no reply... ;)
whups

--tun-ipv6
i need to try that real soon obsidieth: indeed, i might give it a shot up_the_irons: cd $sleep ***: mhoran has joined #arpnetworks

thanks, for thhe record, i only use slackware and freebsd but i guess debian will be fine now mike-burns: Noted. jeev: :>
the air is nasty today
again obsidieth: debian is fantastic jeev: i guess the thing i like is the ability to install things so fast
rather than slack, build it.. now they got packages
or freebsd, build it.. i hate binary packages but it's a VPS obsidieth: heh, i prefer source
binary packages just sort of snuck in from linux jeev: yea mike-burns: OpenBSD has done binary packages for as long as I've run it. jeev: freebsd does too i guess for certain ports
but i just dont like them mike-burns: I like them and try to use them where I can. obsidieth: meh
mixing and matching is asking for a dependency error sooner or later. mike-burns: Yeah, that's the sucky part.
I wouldn't mind if FreeBSD ports were completely changed. jeev: yea, see.. debian is cool with dependencies obsidieth: indeed. jeev: im excited to see a provider on freenode ***: ballen|away is now known as ballen
ballen is now known as ballen|away jeev: hmm, i should've seen this coming
i signed up, got my vps.. and have nothingi to use it for
hahaha
i'm a single server or VPS's dream customer
i'll figure somethin out obsidieth: well thats a new one jeev: what you mean obsidieth: i tend to have a lot of uses and no vps's jeev: i have like 40 servers that i own
oh wait, point of this VPS was to put someone on it, someone's site.. keep away from my pr0n serving ***: ballen|away is now known as ballen jeev: is the arpnetworks maintenance account a requirement ***: ballen is now known as ballen|away syminet: /msg up_the_irons eheheeh yeah true! I was wondering about the insurance and all that too. up_the_irons: jeev: no, arpnetworks maintenance account is not a requirement; i just can't help you if you need anything (sometimes customers need us to go in the VPS and do something for them)
jeev: and like if you turn off ACPI, I'd have to way to gracefully shutdown the VM for a host reboot (e.g. kernel upgrade)
jeev: still your choice jeev: huh
i'd have to way to gracefuly shutdown ..
you mean no way up_the_irons: jeev: what if I needed to do it for you, like emergency maintenance? you won't be around all the time jeev: yea that's cool up_the_irons: if we learn of kernel level exploits, we generally upgrade the host within 24-48 hours, and we shutdown all the VMs via ACPI. for ppl who've turnded off ACPI in their kernel, we login to the VPS. If we don't have an account, then the VPS must simply be shut off hard (not good). Fortunately, we haven't had to do any hard shutdowns yet jeev: yea i'm not gonna alter anything up_the_irons: jeev: trit.net is Qsource's network, Trit Networks is one of my peers jeev: never heard of Qsource up_the_irons: jeev: Qsource is a dude in this channel
jeev: acpid is running by default in your VM, so you should be good to delete the arpnetworks maint account if you want to
i gotta eat and head out to the office
ttyl jeev: oh
oh
he's a blackened guy
