up_the_irons: obsidieth: heh, stubborn!
obsidieth: services? hell haw
nickserv? nope
up_the_irons: very raw
obsidieth: personally i think the big shell providers put a bit of pressure on admins to keep it that way:p
up_the_irons: i c
forcefollow: then the admins bitch about the bots
lol
up_the_irons: heh
obsidieth: did you and bigs recompile the kernel on your VM?
obsidieth: yeah i recompiled yesterday
hopefully i didnt disable anything you need, i stripped it out a bit
up_the_irons: obsidieth: good to see it rebooted nicely. Just don't take out ACPI, or else I can't shut it down cleanly if needed
obsidieth: i didnt remove anything that wasnt in dmesg |more
and had someone double check it
the reboot always scares me:p
up_the_irons: ah OK
obsidieth: uh, that was in dmesg.
*
up_the_irons: obsidieth: we could test it to be sure, at any time convenient for you
obsidieth: cd /usr/src && make buildkernel && make installkernel && make buildworld && make installworld && shutdown -r now
executed successfully.
i think we're in the clear
up_the_irons: obsidieth: what I mean is, if I send an ACPI shutdown command to your VM, will it really shut down? This is how I "power off" VMs gracefully before a host reboot, for example
obsidieth: sec
i didnt remove anything acpi.
shoudl work, but ive got some stuff up at the minute
up_the_irons: obsidieth: no problem

up_the_irons: hah, nice to see a competitor, TekTonic, deleted my factual post that OpenBSD can be virtualized and VMs are available (on my site).
"You have been banned: fuck off"
srsly, if you don't even offer OpenBSD VMs in your portfolio, what do you care if they come to me...

ctg-: evening, quick question regarding console access, mainly setting it up (if needed) came across this, http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/NetConsole wondering if this is the correct method in setting it up or is there something else
using freebsd 7.2 vps
up_the_irons: ctg-: no, console access is done via VNC. See the portal, the IP, username, password is listed there
https://portal.arpnetworks.com that is
ctg-: aha, i completely missed that, thank you very much :)
up_the_irons: ctg-: np :)

forcefollow: up_the_irons: you got around to me yet?
its been bugging me that 4.5 openbsd gives the virtual host issues
i think id rather go with freebsd 7.2
unless you dont mind me trying to upgrade and crashing the host
=)
