gangsterlicious: not much. saw you selling on wht :)
up_the_irons: yup, tryin to get some new peeps in
gangsterlicious: when you guys switched to KVM? during beta period?
up_the_irons: gangsterlicious: yup

gangsterlicious: getting better performance from KVM? i've been testing some freebsd running on Xen. compiling ports is heck slow
up_the_irons: gangsterlicious: yeah performance is pretty good so far
some customers use the term "stupid fast"
;)
dunno if they've actually tried compiling ports or not
ultimately, i don't think it is the fastest thing out there (a paravirtualized VM would be faster), but its flexibility makes up for it IMO
Linux guests are getting a few paravirtualized drivers (virtio for NICs, forgot which one was for block devices), which is really speeding up Linux VMs
syminet: wudup man
mike-burns: I haven't noticed any speed issues when compiling ports.
gangsterlicious: up_the_irons: cool beans.
mike-burns: well, could be this Xen server i'm using also have 14 other VMs on it. it is just quadcore, nothing fancy
up_the_irons: mike-burns: good to know
gangsterlicious: well, time to head home. take care folks!
up_the_irons: gangsterlicious: later!
