[16:58] or an X390 (which is new) [16:59] brycec: lol that view is only half! [16:59] seems I have a lot of backlog to catch up on... [17:00] Yes. [17:01] I have two X1 Carbons and a T480s. [17:01] X1 Carbon is great. I needed a bit more RAM and so I went with the T480s, which is the same size as my old X1 Carbon. [17:01] Just don't get the 2nd gen with the terrible touchbar. [17:02] +1 to all of that. [17:03] Like mhoran said, know what you're getting into: the T-series is a more powerful laptop, and the T...s is just-slightly-larger than a Carbon (just barely). But the X1 Carbon I have is great. [17:04] I've been on the T-series for quite some time [17:04] but I want to travel with something lighter [17:04] yet not have a small screen [17:04] Well the T...s is smaller. [17:04] 14" screen. [17:04] Just like the X1. [17:04] But yeah X1 is great. [17:05] all the 14" screen models, that I've seen, had low contrast ratio on the displays (which I tend to be picky about) [17:05] But there's no discernable size diff between my X1 and T480s. [17:05] what about weight? [17:05] This screen is ridiculously good. [17:05] Same weight. [17:05] ah [17:05] there's some X1 carbon's on ebay for only a few hundred bucks [17:05] The newer X1 is lighter than the newest T480s, but I'm comparing a two year old X1 with a one year old T480s. [17:05] Yeah they don't hold value well haha. [17:06] lol no technology does [17:06] I think Macs do a bit at least. [17:06] OK I'm going to look at the T480s too [17:07] what's the max memory on the X1 vs T480 ? [17:07] I think the newset X1 can have 24 and I have 24. Or maybe X1 max is 16? [17:11] Ah OK [17:11] 16 is enough for me [17:11] wow the T480s has a 700:1 contrast ratio screen; that's really good [17:11] Yeah it's really nice. [17:16] X1 Carbon weight starts slightly less. 2.49 lb vs. 2.9 lb (T480s) [17:16] a bit less than 1/2 a pound [17:46] 5th and 6th gen X1's are still pricey used [17:46] but 4th gen, still with a 700:1 CR screen, is better [17:46] might be the sweet spot [17:52] *** ziyourenxiang has joined #arpnetworks [20:07] I have an X1 Carbon from work. It is awesome. Wish I had more RAM though [20:07] The docking station rocks. One USB type C and you are good to go - dual monitor, ethernet, multiple USB and Power all taken care of [23:27] Yeah -- I hate that you have to get a "docking station" to get all the things in a USB-C, vs. the plethora of USB-C dongles out there. The dongles can't do 4k@60p over the USB-C but the $300 docking station can. :(
