nathani: thanks to mercutio , [FBI] is now logging again. :) mercutio: thanks for registering that nick and getting the bot back up and running here :) | [00:24] |
mercutio | i didn't even consider removing the need to register nicks
so much spam these days! now y'all have no excuse to not talk more again :) | [00:25] |
up_the_irons | I removed it a little while ago, but the spam came back, so...
It's kinda amazing that our logs to back to 2009 almost 10 years! | [00:26] |
mercutio | yeah
irc was a selling point when i first came here :) | [00:31] |
up_the_irons | :)
Wish we didn't lose like 20 members just by going +r wonder if we go -r, note anyone (legit) new who joins, then ask them to register | [00:44] |

mercutio: That is an option, their messages would still be delivered to / seen by anyone with +o. It gets really confusing though (as an op) because there's no indication that the person talking cannot be seen by others so to me and [FBI] it looks like a very one-sided conversation. (It works well paired with a "need voice to speak" kind of room.) | [11:13] |
mercutio | i see...
how can we tell if someone is registered or not? it maybe that we could get [fbi] to check if the user is registered and say specifically to them when they come in (cos no-one reads the topic) | [11:18] |

mhoran | Freenode already does that right now.
If you try to join a channel as an unregistered user you get a message telling you that you need to register If that doesn't work, a bot isn't going to work either. | [13:50] |
