erratic has joined #arpnetworks JC_Denton: up_the_irons2: what's the remote hands fee for the metal servers? $75/hr? brycec: Out of curiosity JC_Denton what kind of remote hands do you need that IPMI isn't providing? Or if it's about reconfiguring the machine / replacing hardware, that would be normal support and not "remote hands" I'd imagine. JC_Denton: i'm in a blade and one of the custom SSDs i originally sent is starting to die
so i need to send a replacement, initiate a clone, and swap
i'll eventually throw in a ticket to inquire formally, but i figured i'd see about poking here first brycec: Ah, self-provided drives, a real edge-case then. JC_Denton: yep
even if they weren't, it'd still be a bind cause i'd still need to do the copy
couldn't just replace with a blank disc
*disk
the blade being limited to two slots complicates that
especially since i have them LVM'd together ***: hive-mind has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 260 seconds) brycec: Well best of luck with the migration ***: hive-mind has joined #arpnetworks JC_Denton: thanks ***: hive-mind has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)

awyeah has quit IRC (Quit: ZNC - http://znc.in)
awyeah has joined #arpnetworks mercutio: so the SSD is reading but not writing or such/
that seems like the kind of thing that requires more than basic remote hands disk swap.
raid simplifies that kind of thing cos someone just swap in/out the disk ***: hive-mind has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
hive-mind has joined #arpnetworks JC_Denton: mercutio: it's overall smart status is a pass, but it's griping about raw_read_rate errors
it's twin has a 0 for that attrib
so realistically, the work would be hooking a new one of the same model in via usb, so i can remote boot it into a rescue and do some dd work
and then when that's done, swapping said disk and rebooting mjp2: no raid1/mirror? you are brave :D JC_Denton: SSDs weren't big enough / cheap enough at the time
hourly backups are pretty solid
so i'm not sweating too much
wishing i was on one of the 4 slotters tho, lol ***: ziyourenxiang has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 256 seconds) mjp2: send 2x large SSD now and rebuild the server with raid 1 :) restore from backups mercutio: JC_Denton: ahh yeh, probably is best just emailing support@ then and seeing if they can stick in via usb JC_Denton: was honestly hoping there'd be some higher spec'd metal out there, but guessing Thunder is taking priority there mercutio: there are some servers with 4 slots JC_Denton: was more thinking proc mercutio: ah ok
cpu haven't really gone up in speed much for servers
most cpu developments happen for cellphones atm :)
you can do e5s to do more ram ***: gizmoguy_ has joined #arpnetworks
