if I shutdown -h a dedi, can I bring it back up with a request to support@ ? I could never get the console working on OSX. power control should work w/o java via the web based LOM? Ahh... so if I shutdown -p, it will be powered off, and I can toggle the power again to bring it back? I'll have to remember the instructions from a few years ago, but in theory, I won't need them. This is just an emergency in case something didn't get ported. well, check that you can access the LOM first :) a good point. I can confirm that ipmitool has been able to power on, off, reset, etc my dedi without issue. (and I use it for serial access too) ahh... that's really all I need. when I get stable at the airport, I'll go ahead and flip her off then. why the full poweroff? because we won't be starting it up again. no point wasting electrons in the cardcage. :) ah time to cancel service for it then, maybe? yes, after a few days to make sure we didn't abandon something. i like using single user for that stuff I don't know how I would get to the console for that though. as a dedi so single user is as good as completely down "System shutdown time has arrived" still pinging though And the pings have stopped. she's dead, jim. it might take a few minutes if services are pokey Yep, we're good. now to see if anything blows up :) there have been so many sctp vulnerabilities in linux over time. i haven't heard of anyone actually using it. "she's dead, jim" LOL given that Neil and I are both trekkies, that seemed appropriate.
