nathani: to be clear, the metal dedicated boxes do not have infiniband.  We install IB cards when we're converting them to Thunder hosts.

I am curious how the networking works, are there infiniband switches that hook up to the ceph cluster, or do the thunder hosts connect directly into the ceph cluster?
