mercutio20 hard-drives would use a lot of power [20:19]
......... (idle for 41mn)
brycecAbout 12.5A @ 12VDC
150W ^
[21:00]
mercutioi've been thinking about trying to reduce power consumption further here
although maybe getting portable air conditioner would be better idea.
but i do wonder how much difference 150watts would make to heat if running 24/7
there are too many factors to calculate easily, but i am wondering if it'd be a noticable difference
i suspect yes.

mercutioi'm at 86f atm [21:04]
brycecNothing I've really noticed. My apartment remains a pretty consistent temperature [21:04]
mercutioi'm usually at 26c [21:04]
brycecI'm at 20c atm [21:04]
mercutiogetting up to 28c
ahh at 20c not too much concern
[21:04]
brycec(considering it's about 10c outside) [21:04]
mercutiobut recently it got as hot as 33c inside
it's about 27c outside i guess
i got one of these thermo guns
[21:04]
brycecIn the warm summer, the apartment does heat up, but it's pretty even throughout, no matter what room. The biggest heat contributors are monitor.
*monitors
[21:05]
mercutiooutside wall is 25c
my monitors are like 38c at the front
i'm using led monitors
ccfl did seem to make more heat :)
but yeah 3 monitors could use 150watts i suppose
[21:06]
brycecI used to use 4x monitors that all put out about 38c, really warmed a room up.
No idea what my current dual-monitor setup does
[21:07]
mercutioit's fun having a thermo gun
i don't know how accurate it is
[21:07]
brycecYep [21:08]
mercutiobut it's helped calibrate my awareness of temperatures between 37 and 60c.
my infiniband card has been running really hot though
it's below other cards, but there's no fan at the bottom of the case.
it shows as about 90c, but it gave a warning in kernel saying it had hit 105c
[21:08]
bryceccriminy [21:09]
mercutioyeah
there's not much air movement down there
there's a big video card in the way
