brycecFUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
So, uh... what happened with kvr21 at 03:25? My VPS was rebooted
(at roughly the same exact time as we lost power at my home)
for 90 fucking minutes.
(fun fact: my home battery backups don't last 90 minutes.)
(this has NOT been a good early start to my day, and I apologize for my profanity)
I am seriously curious about that coincidental timing
Definitely wasn't "graceful" judging by the chunk of null characters in my syslog:
Sep 30 03:25:42 vps3 kernel: [1435736.560417] [UFW BLOCK] IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=52:54:00:27:23:74:00:0d:65:ab:c8:bf:08:00 SRC=96.42.10.9 DST=174.136.103.130 LEN=32 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=50 ID=32512 PROTO=UDP SPT=5060 DPT=5060 LEN=12

....... (idle for 32mn)
RandalSchwartzlot of nulls there. [06:50]
brycecYeah that tends to happen with unclean shutdowns, when the power is "yanked"
I've seen it plenty of times
[06:51]
BryceBotThat's what she said!! [06:51]

pcnHeya, admins [07:20]
jpalmer1 admin, lots of happy customers :P [07:32]
brycec1 unhappy customer, 1 perturbed customer (both on kvr21) [07:32]
jpalmeryeah, I saw your ealier messages. sounds like kvr21 had some issues last night [07:34]
brycecsounds like.
But I learned a buddy of mine is on the same host, so that's funny/cool
[07:34]
..... (idle for 23mn)
After reviewing the logs and their timestamps more closely (read: more awake) I see that kvr21 died about 25 minutes before I lost power at home. The only logical conclusion is that the car that his the power pole was being run by an autonomous program running on a VPS on kvr21 - it cruised for awhile until eventually hitting the pole. [07:58]
................ (idle for 1h18mn)
pcnI was wondering what the upgrade process was for a VPS storage? [09:16]
brycecpcn: you're offered a choice of a second "drive" or just growing your current drive
simply email support@ about it
[09:18]
pcnbrycec: Cool, I'll wait for the response. I def. want the current volume expanded. [09:29]
......... (idle for 40mn)
grodyodd, i had a power cut in the whee hours of this morning
sure that autonomous car wasn't a sub atomic particle car.. hitting two poles in two different places at the same time?

grodylol RandalSchwartz
kvr21 has been fine
[13:58]
brycecexcept for its reboot 10-ish hours ago... [13:59]
grodyat least since for 9 days, which i had to force a reboot
err
kvr24 sorry
[13:59]
brycecAre you sure you're talking about kvr21??
lol
[13:59]
grody:P
shit, i has 3 unpaid bills
not sure whether to cry and troll my mastercard again, or praise you for leniency or both
both sounds fitting
:)
[13:59]
brycecstart with praise [14:02]
grodyhave nothing for ARPNetworks
nothing but*
ask anyone who knows me, i will trash anyone who is slightly an ass - i cant fault you for anything, and you're not even regulated by EU standards
some companies here could take a leaf from you and be better
</brown nosing>
[14:02]
brycecOr simply put, up_the_irons++ [14:05]
grody:) [14:05]
mercutiobrycec: sorry, i meant not sure what it is yet, i thought you'd be ok with that. [14:11]
brycecmercutio: I'm somewhat okay
but not 100%
I'm happy to know that $people are still trying to figure out what happened
and aren't just shrugging it off
(if ARP were free, shrugging it off would be okay, "you get what you pay for.")
[14:11]
mrsaintany arp ppl here?
or just customers?
[14:23]
brycecmrsaint: note the /topic ;) [14:25]
gizmoguyjust rebooted a puppetmaster with 500 days uptime
everything still works?!
[14:26]
brycecgizmoguy: your irc does at least :) [14:28]
gizmoguyby everything still works I mean it booted, and puppet clients can still sync
I was sure i had a thousand bandaid solutions I had improperly applied to that machine
<-- not a ruby hipster
[14:28]
grodyeep
rubt
ruby too
[14:29]
bryceccongrats, gizmoguy [14:29]
grodyand i thought python was an ass for whitespaces [14:29]
gizmoguyruby is interesting...
I'm trying to fix my Gem-bloat at the moment
and was sure I'd removed more than I should have
I suppose you get pip-bloat with python too
[14:30]
brycecRuby bit me in the ass the other day - I assumed Array#concat was idempotent just because similar methods in Python and PHP were. That was a fun bug... [14:31]
mrsaintI just wanted to talk to someone about maybe expanding arpnetworks concept to eu. [14:31]
brycecbrycec stabs Ruby
mrsaint: they're planning to
[14:31]
mrsaintmake them message me then :) [14:31]
brycecLast I heard, looking at Germany [14:32]
mrsaintI have good deals..
I do have dc in .de .uk .nl 2x.se
[14:32]
grodygermany, really? [14:33]
mrsaintofcoz :) [14:33]
grodyi'd have thought NL had better resources [14:33]
brycecup_the_irons does speak [some] German... [14:33]
mrsaintYeah but we have ring spanning over .se .dk .de .nl .fr .uk .se [14:33]
grodyi only know how to curse in german, and even that is limited [14:34]
mrsainti just launched 2 servers in canada.. sometimes I like interfaces where you click click and 2 min later box is up :9
I was running kvm and autoinstallations a couple years ago but now I do more managed vps servers and physical machines and vmware soo its more semi-auto installations.. but I do make more money then 5 bucks a server :9
[14:35]
up_the_ironsI can read and write general conversations in German. still hard to speak it though. [14:43]
brycecohai
er, guten tag

[15:23]
......... (idle for 41mn)
grodymy phrase, spelt wrong dich and ficken
it's self explanining really
i knew what it meant the first time a german bird said it to me
although i suspect it was the look in her eyes that gave that one away more than her words
[16:04]
bryceclol [16:06]
mercutiogrody: i thought you were saying that's what it meant
rather than your reaction to it
