I seem to recall somebody mentioning that you couldn't do a Win 10 install, or maybe it was upgrade, without a Microsoft account. I am here to say that you can do both without even once being prompted for a Microsoft ID. you can't do insider program upgrade to rtm without msn well that's not a scenario I can test easily :P upgraded a Win 7 machine earlier, which obviously didn't have a msft ID associated. And just did a fresh install. yeah i had to shift to msn account i was using it without for aegs. And pleasantly I've got through the whole Win10 install without entering a key :) (I'm sure it will bitch later) but i was stuck on 10132 or something nah there's no keys now somehow it identifys with your motherboard afaik though (I mean the clean install) so if you change motherboard it'll stop working heh, it's prompted a few times and I click "I'll do this later" or whatever and i've got it on i7-3770 so i may want to change motherboard at some point :( so what do you think of windows 10? I really, really , really wish the backups weren't running right now. this is slow as fuck (but they run in the middle of the night, a good time for backups generally) what backups? at work oh ok you're working? isn't it like 3 am? :) yes, exactly because fuck windows fuck it so hard i remember when people used to say that windows 95 was stable and they never had any problems with it (dealing with a smattering of issues, from Visual Studio to WSUS) there was like an uptime bug that hit after 47 days or something hardly anyone used to hit it oh apparently it's 49.7 days oh it was on 98 too I recently discovered the Win-I shortcut. that's made things much simpler. (it opens the control panel) have you tried win x? i just use win-x, win-d, win-e and i start typing for things on control panel normally what's win-x? it brings up a menu which has command prompt, control panel, etc on it there's also win-r for run yeah I knew the others, and obv win-r and for some reason i seem to accidentally do win-l too much but -i and -x were new to me i lock my screen all the time, on purpose i think windows key sticks in synergy or smoething i really like how when installign w10 the eula says in bold if you're in the states, read the no suing us only arbirtration section then when it installs, i have to click customise settings and explicitly turn off 10+ things that are like "share location" "share wifi passwords" "auto connect to open wifi networks" all enabled by default oh snap - are all the dedi's sold out? :D good problem for you guys :D saw some prefix withdrawal alerts for my v6 prefix announced here last night hazardous: _optout_nomap hazardous: wow, 10 things? staticsafe: did they stay withdrawn? nope i wonder why bind9 is still so popular dunno are there still systems that ship w/bind9 in base? yeh i think so semi-mainstream news is reporting on the bind vulnerability :) gotta scaremonger as much as possible well it's been 15 years since it was widely known that bind is a bad idea and bind9 did not fix the issues at least sendmail isn't common now Mostly because sendmail was a beast to configure, not because security :P I like BIND because of the excellent documentation and the feature features* so nice outside today Sadly, our nice weather is at an end for now. 32C/90F here at noon, and the high's about 40C/100F but for awhile, it didn't get about 23C/75F in the day, super pleasant uggghhhh humid too? Not really, 25% ish oh, that's good still sucks temp wise since so many houses and stuff don't have ac But a whole week of leaving the AC off, in the summer. Was glorious :D yeah, hahaha mine ran a whopping 30 mins yesterday Yeah but they're used to it. Or they buy window/wall/portable AC units but it was sub-70F this morning when i ran errands, and only just hit ~80 at 1300 Nice :) It still hits 50/60 at night here at least. (though earlier in the summer there was brief time it didn't get below 80F) yuck pissed me off to not only leave the AC on (thermostat) all day and night, but dammit I moved away from Phoenix hahaha was just thinking that's one of my least fav things about low elevation desert phx and las vegas - hot during the day and slightly less hot at night Seems like that has much more to do with other aspects than just elevation. For starters, massive concrete island effect in both. Phx being in a valley that was frequently subject to atmospheric inversion kept air stale, stagnant, and hot elevation is a big part of it YOU'RE A BIG PART OF IT! >.> <.< SO WHAT IF I AM? Dude, just fart less. :) TOO MUCH HOT AIR OK? Oh you're just full of it i sure am Anyways, yeah, it sucked. But if you drove out of town, past the mountains, it cooled riiiight off yeah adiabatic lapse rate couldn't remember the term @ud adiabatic lapse rate Error, No definitions could be found for: adiabatic+lapse+rate http://meteorologytraining.tpub.com/14312/css/14312_47.htm Yeah you're just making shit up :P hahahah tl;dr air cools as it rises? yes due to pressure 1C per 100m of elev change appx 5.5F per 1kft Yeah. Just making sure I understood the point. (I do remember some chemistry, as it happens :p) that site is ugly dunno if chrome is just mangling the typography or what but it looks like someone printed something then scanned it and shrank it Aaaand just looks creepy https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/matterandform/bevel-3d-photography-for-any-smartphone-or-tablet wtf someone's trying to take my nick with nickserv :( how do we know its really you, and they havent already succeeded? mnathani_: that's a good point how do we know it's really mercutio and not some imposter you don't m0unds OH NO http://www.atelier.net/en/trends/articles/cyber-security-we-re-building-monster-connecting-all-these-devices_436827?utm_content=buffer03ab0&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer whoops, wrong channel would the real mercutio please stand up :-) *burp*
