m0unds: haha, yeah - they've had kvm in beta for a while brycec: And now it's public m0unds: yup
as of 2 weeks ago i guess -: m0unds doesn't really follow linode brycec: Oh yeah just saw the date
I follow http://lobste.rs/ m0unds: i only knew about the beta because my buddy was happy about it
ah brycec: (and it hit there today) m0unds: yeah, saw it in the list brycec: now I feel silly for announcing it. m0unds: funny
it was news to me pyvpx: brycec: you has invite for lobste.rs? brycec: pyvpx: yeah. PM me your email address
(I also have a buttload of invites for keybase.io if anybdoy cares) grody: eek you too!
lol
seems to be a common thing now those m0unds: yeah, i can't find anyone who wants keybase invites
the only people i know who use pgp are already on it brycec: Everyone I know and care about already have a keybase account
exactly grody: hehe -: grody is a lone wolf grody: i tend to collaberate with a little more anonimity
General Distrust seems to command my life, maybe i should get a new job -: brycec reports to Major Lazer grody: sharks with frikken lazurs on their heads...!
im nursing a pigeon chick atm.. mother threw it out of nest and tried to kill it
so im gonna raise it, teach it to be a messenger pigeon
gonna be cool m0unds: someone hit my wife's car in a parking lot. they were nice enough to leave a note, but state farm is doing their best to make it as annoying as possible to get the damage repaired. brycec: <-- this is my unsurprised nick m0unds: oddly enough, i've had good experiences w/other insurance companies
my wife and i are unlucky with car stuff
so i've had more than my fair share of claims through others' insurance cos :/ brycec: for what little it's worth, I've had good experiences with GEICO through two accidents.
(was rear-ended at a stop light, and then I lost control and went sideways into a tree) m0unds: yeah, i was hit by a driver w/geico and they were good
oh, that sucks brycec: Snow is fun :) And snow tyres are not miracle workers, you can still lose traction when you swerve. m0unds: yeah, for sure
i have a set of blizzaks for my truck brycec: I mean, they're fantastic and very useful. But they don't fix stupid :p m0unds: right
state farm is the other driver's car - we use encompass, and they've been pretty good (integrates auto and homeowners into a single policy)
err car ins carrier brycec: Ahh m0unds: was your wreck up in WA? brycec: The snow one, yeah.
The rear-ending was in AZ m0unds: oh, durr
i thought that was one accident -: m0unds is dumb m0unds: that you were rearended and lost control into a tree brycec: "through two accidents" :P m0unds: yeah, i realize that now, lol
hahahah brycec: But I see how my language could be confusing without that context m0unds: yer words r confusin brycec: The snow accident was me trying to avoid sudden wildlife (in other words, DEER!)
The rear-ending was me minding my own damn business at a red light
That was a fun, easy case because my insurance company could hear the woman bawling and apologizing and it was all her fault, etc) m0unds: texting or something? brycec: Supposedly marital issues had her distracted. m0unds: ah brycec: Maybe not as "bad" as texting and driving, but certainly up there on the scale of times you shouldn't be driving. m0unds: yeah brycec: I guess she would've run the light if I weren't in her way. m0unds: my friend bought a new jeep in nov or december and got rear ended by a texter within a week of buying it
car was new enough that the body shop had a hard time getting parts so they had it for like 2 mos brycec: That sucks. kellytk: Has anyone had experience running both Smokeping and collectd with the ping plugin? brycec: on the topic of Smokeping, just noticed these in my logs: FPing: Got fping output: 'ICMP Unreachable (Communication Administratively Prohibited) from 38.104.139.202 for ICMP Echo sent to netflix01.ring.nlnog.net (198.45.56.12)'
Apparently Netflix got tired of their nlnog node being ping'd
I didn't even realize that was a flag one could set.
(I admit, I haven't studied ICMP packet headers :p) kellytk: I haven't seen that before either, thanks for sharing it brycec staticsafe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Control_Message_Protocol#Control_messages BryceBot: Internet Control Message Protocol :: The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is one of the main protocols of the Internet Protocol Suite. It is used by network devices, like routers, to send error messages indicating, for example, that a requested service is not available or that a host or router could not be reached. ICMP can also be used to relay query messages. It is assigned protocol number 1. ICMP differs from transport protocols such a grody: i sometimes send odd ICMP back when certain things are requested brycec: Oh? Time to fuzz grody's firewalls and routers! grody: you could modify the ping app to use the admin porhib as the reply and graph that
brycec, generally WAN facing i blackhole.. locally i send odd things so i can tell if the it's the actual host replying or some NAT or the like brycec: Ah, cool :)
(I wasn't actually going to take the time to fuzz anyways :p) grody: lol
trying to figure out why mint keeps breaking it's IPv6
it'll SLAAC.. be usable for a few hours.. then just stop working m0unds: sounds like android too grody: only see it on 4.4.4+
my JB dual sim phone has rock solid IPv6 (even over OpenVPN) m0unds: considering how broken vpn support was on nearly every 4.4.x branch, i guess you have a golden egg
if you had an openvpn tunnel w/no ipv6 and you connected to it, it was dumb enough to not remove v6 routes, so every bit of ipv6 traffic would escape the vpn
assuming local ipv6 grody: have a small zte kis 3 running 4.4.2 which seems to be good with SLAAC (no idea for openvpn) m0unds: and then on 5.0+ and 5.1+ ipv6 is completely broken, which is awesome since GCM is available via ipv6, which means you regularly don't receive any messaging that happens to use GCM grody: the dual sim is 4.1.2, so yea.. before things broke
ugh yea.. am no liking lollipop at all m0unds: i hate android in general, it's a mess grody: am poking an M preview build atm
still have a 2.2.something (last GB)
the apps i've kept on it work (and had to remove most of googles crap)
thats pretty solid
admittedly i've been looking at windows phones m0unds: i miss WP
a lot
i used a lumia 920 for 2 years, but had to switch to an android device because of work related stuff
my wife is still using hers
she had an HTC one x that shit the bed, like every other HTC device she'd ever owned, so i got a refurb 925 and gave her the 920 and she's been using it since grody: other half has some oldish HTC 620 i think
pretty run of the mill but it seems pretty sturdy
her parents have lumia 920's
or 950's.. i can't remember
but they were pretty nice to use m0unds: yeah, they're smooth and have nice mobile cameras
and good displays, ui runs at 60fps all the time grody: ah, 640's m0unds: ah, that's one of the new ones
good value for the $
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_lumia_920-4967.php
that's what my wife has, cyan colored grody: yea i been looking.. but i wont go other £200 for a new phone
am still quite happy with this M2
this was a £160 phone and was half expecting it to be pure crud m0unds: haha grody: this is the oddest thing ever
my laptop on this wifi access point can't actually establish reliable TCP connections (or UDP flows) with a laptop connected to the other wifi ap
both are on the same broadcast domaint oo :/ brycec: But both can establish reliable flows/connections with their respective AP's? My first suspect is always the wireless connections themselves. grody: they seem to do anything but talk with each other
other devices on each one talk
take my device into the study, it roams onto that AP and it works
oddest thing ever -: grody goes to bed kellytk: Delay variation appears to be more technically precise than jitter acf__: m0unds: I just bought a Lumia 1020
super nice so far m0unds: acf__: sweet
acf__: camera is incredibly good BryceBot: That's what she said!! acf__: yea. that was one of the reasons
I'm coming from N9 (MeeGo)
the always-on time is nice m0unds: gotcha
yeah acf__: I'm looking for a good ssh app still thought
any suggestions? m0unds: i was using one called the ssh app or something
it worked alright, wasn't as nice as serverauditor on android/ios
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/the-ssh-client/e8aa1299-e011-486c-9f61-3232c892b17b
that's the one i was using acf__: ok cool
the other problem I was having... transferring files from Linux to it :P
it doesn't seem to cooperate with jmtpfs well m0unds: hm
any particular filetype?
i usually just dropped stuff on onedrive acf__: eventually I used the Thunar plugin thingy, and it was working OK
music files mainly m0unds: ah. if you have a larger data plan, i believe you can stream music from onedrive now
could be mixing that up though acf__: that sounds convenient m0unds: https://music.xbox.com/Onedrive brycec: Also relevant "You can make the music from OneDrive available offline on your Windows 8.1 phone, PC or tablet. "
so fat data plan unnecessary m0unds: oh, cool ***: jpalmer has quit IRC (Quit: WeeChat 0.4.2)
