wow i ♥ Sony have an older phone (still under warranty) - unlocked the bootloader (officiall) and reverted modem to an older version to install Lollipop (built from Sony Dev site) when i reverted it back to stock ROM, the camera seized to work and sent it off for repair - they replaced the mainboard, unlocked the bootloader for me and kept an older modem on it for me now my camera works in Lollipop ♥ Sony i was waiting for them to say "it's not covered and will cost £50" wow maybe the techs doing the work like when people do such things rather than just drop their phone in a toilet haha dont see follow through care like that much here.. i am seriously impressed if i dropped it down the bog, i'd just use my insurance to get an outright swap :P really? you'd have to pay a huge premium i'd just try the rice trick assuming it was pre ... stuff.. i don't quite understand how people manage to do such things but apparently it's kind of common https://scontent-lga1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/10603713_10153010079983546_898574669704801349_n.jpg?oh=bafa03a826f1681e3002d43542c00580&oe=562776E6 well THAT was really, really annoying. My dedicate machine's BMC refused to attach any ISO, either from ARP's library or from the iKVM Java viewer. email support@ ? Yeah I might do that later. Currently recovering from the "oh god everything is on fire and we can't boot to recovery" panic do pxe boot? did you recover ok bryce? PXE boot from what? AFAIK there is no DHCP, let alone PXE boot on the dedi network or my VLAN :p And I'm back online, yeah. No idea how/why, but grub-efi refused to see my ZFS boot volume whereas grub-mbr booted it fine. (debugging for a time that I can afford extended downtime) you can pxe to anything else on your vlan you can setup dnsmasq to do it quite easily as long as you firewall off the stuff from external i'd be surprised if the dedicated servers can't pxe boot yeh i know when you get up it can be good to debug later :) i think ipmi power cycle doesn't reboot the virtual media thing. That requires me to interrupt my sole production VPS,and I wasn't that fargone yet. it doesn't really have to be interrupted. just dual purposed :) I'd have to touch the pf rules, and there's a chance I bork its networking. Neither were acceptable risks. ok :) well you got up anyway. (And if I didn't have that VPS, I'd be screwed too :P) yeh it does sound pretty ick (But, there's a reason I kept a single VPS rather than relying completely on my dedicated box) dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0; enable-tftp; tftp-root=/var/lib/tftpboot those on blank lines without semi-colon is basically what you need to do pxe boot with dnsmasq at a minimum. there's some option thing that some stuff needs to to say pxe i think and you need to set a dhcp range. you then need to stick pxelinux.0 and some other stuff in /var/lib/tftpboot Thanks mercutio, I don't need any help. yeh it's more if want to look into pxe later :) it's good you came up anyway (: Oh, I _know_ PXE very well ;) My last two jobs involved a fairly extensive setup for provisioning new systems, network installs, etc. oh ok :) sorry. i didn't realise. Thanks though, appreciate your helpfulness. i think people overestimate how hard it is to get a simple network boot working. and underestimate complicated setups :) heh, it's pretty easy, that's true. Most of the work is organizing/arranging the boot files. yeah, when you want different hosts to have different startups and to start tracking mac addresess and using alternate vlan's etc it gets more complex. (if you're just booting a single file, it's easy as pie. When you need menus, or mac/ip/uuid-specific boots, or you start mixing pxe implementations... then you have fun) exactly i wish the ip/kvm type stuff would have open source implementation they all seem a little iffy sounds like a business opportunity! maybe i don't think thereis much of a business opportunity unfortunately :( there might have been 10 years ago but now things are pretty entrenched afaik but then, it's hard to know. i never would have called youtube a business opportunity :) i see more of the IBM branded IP KVMs than any other at least here in NM i see a lot of HP there's a personal weather station near me that's gone off the rails i think it's in direct sunlight or something, says the temperature is 15F higher than anything else nearby heh i'm finding it rather chilly here again but apparently where i used to live reached a new record low lol does BryceBot fetch PWS IDs or just airports? @weather KNMALBUQ201 Error, No cities match your search query guess that answers that i think there's a way to get pws @weather m0unds: Fetching weather for your previous query (KNMALBUQ201). Error, No cities match your search query @weather kabq Albuquerque International Sunport, NM: Clear 99°F (37°C), Humidity: 8%, Wind: From the West at 5 MPH -- For more details including the forecast and almanac, see http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=, or re-request this with: @weather -v kabq the lying PWS says it's 115F m0unds: it does, there's a format to it. ah something like pws: @weather pws:KNMALBUQ201 Albuquerque, NM: Clear 113°F (45°C), Humidity: 9%, Wind: From the North at 3.2 MPH -- For more details including the forecast and almanac, see http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=35.197624,-106.714790 or re-request this with: @weather -v pws:KNMALBUQ201 there we go (And I'll point out that the format isn't my doing. It's just how wunderground takes it.) right nice, just wasn't sure you'd integrated that part of the API m0unds: heh it's nothing extra. It all goes in the same query field and it's up to wunderground to process it (hence the format) i seem to remember some discussion about it a while ago yeah, just meant @pws vs @weather vs @weather w/params we seem to talk about the weather a lot in here :) probably because there's a large distance between some people :) i like weather Hm @pws is an interesting Idea, I could make that a shortcut. i don't like that it's felt a bit like springtime in phoenix, az this week See 'query' on http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/d/docs?d=data/index it's pretty warm in Santa MOnica no more june gloom why is june gloom there? brycec: gotcha, i've used it before w/a shitty eggdrop module july is always damn cold here, and it's only june :( (Just keep in mind that it gets url-encoded, so you can't do the /-separated queries) ah it's foggy/overcast along the CA coast in june ahh so it looks like for northern hemisphere january should be coldest month? yes, typically because shortest day is december, and shortest day in southern hemisphere is june we're getting into summer in the northern hemisphere now i find it weird how it's after the shortest day that the coldest temperatures happen Yep. (which all seems second-nature to a Northerner. Of course winter is cold, etc) yeah that's why i thought it odd that june would be gloom :) we typically have strong thunderstorms nearly every afternoon from june -> august (monsoon season) ahh i love thunderstorms (keep in mind 'we" is highly localized, since the country is massive) yes yeah we being desert sw like los angeles never gets very cold? eastern az, most of nm cold is relative to the people who live there friends of mine in southern florida freak out when temps drop below 65F during the day true, i moved to a place that's warmer in winter than where i'm from, and i seem to notice the winter more. 65f is kind of cold though inside.. 75f is about what temperature you want inside? my inside temperature is 98.6 :) 22c 75 is alright, i set my thermostat to 78-80 because it's upstairs my inside temperature is around 65f downstairs temp usually settles right around 72-73 w/the upstairs at 78 aactually it's probably more like 66 or 67f m0unds++ that's exactly how I lived in AZ. right now, it's warmer because of energy conservation periods (AC compressor is remotely disabled for a few hours) reduces load on the grid during peak demand times - good in some ways (they send me a check) bad in others (it's hot) Start Time: 2015-06-22 14:00:00 Mountain Daylight Time End Time: 2015-06-22 18:00:00 Mountain Daylight Time brycec: i really wish dual zone hvac was more common in houses 78 sounds ok? I wish central AC was more common here :P (because PNW, nobody really cares) oh, right, hahaha central ac isn't common here either my buddy in WA has a heat pump and he haaaaaaates it when it gets cold i don't mind cold as long as i'm doing stuff err physical stuff he's down in vancouver, wa area but it's quite annoying if standing around outside, or sitting at the computer inside :) my least favorite cold weather activity at my old job was working on aerial lifts in the winter lots of wind? yeah, and cold it's 65F in my office right now silly winter I'm planning to move to the Vancouver, WA area next year :) don't have good enough dexterity to wear gloves gizmoguy_: did you see about canterbuy reaching -20c? cool, he really likes it a lot - he's outside washougal in some unincorporated area of clark county mt cook ... so not really where anyone lives :/ works in PDX m0unds: Interesting. outside to the North or East, do you know? And more importantly, what's his Internet connection? :p hahaha east of vancouver and washougal and...lol Priorities, man! he has some godawful verizon wireless POS loop length is way too long for DSL, no comcast presence (he has no neighbors) he's in the columbia river gorge area Ew, I was afraid of that. (and I wfh, need good Internets) brycec - we'll nearly be neightbors Yeah I know the area Was there just last weekend in fact well, if he was a couple miles in either direction, nw or east, he'd have comcast or centurylink as options of course, that's only when I'm home lol RandalSchwartz err, frontier not cl m0unds: run a wireless link :) mercutio: yeap looks pretty cold down south! he's in a gorge so that's a no-go in fact, the company he works for now just spun down their WISP stuff and they're focusing on MSP stuff now gizmoguy_: it feels like christchurch weather when i go outside here :) m0unds: damn. he had originally put a wimax antenna on a mast and was getting awful clearwire svc, but sprint just killed wimax wimax never really took off much did it? not really, no Got obliterated by LTE's success. yeah didn't help they ran it in 2.5GHz range i thought it just never really took off :/ so building penetration was hideous there's no wimax at all here but you can get wireless mini pci-e cards with wimax support easily.. clearwire had decent presence up in that area, but it was way oversubscribed (think..avg rate was ~300kbit/sec) what's happening with 60 ghz? Food's cooking ;P because it seems like 60 ghz short range gives great bandwidth and then you can bounce it to 2.4/5 inside the house oh apparently 60 ghz isn't shifting to devices now.. wasn't there some wireless hdmi thing using 60ghz? i reckon using multiple channels is a nice idea :) http://www.amazon.com/DVDO-AIR3-1-60GHz-WirelessHD-Adapter/dp/B00F5LEMBC Amazon: "DVDO AIR3-1 60GHz WirelessHD Adapter for HDMI Cable" on completely different frequencies cool 60ghz sounded right, but i wasn't sure yeah http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/06/500mbps-broadband-for-55-a-month-offered-by-wireless-isp/ i was reading that Ars Technica: "500Mbps broadband for $55 a month offered by wireless ISP" and that mentioned 60 ghz too which reminded me :) 60ghz is WiGig (802.11ad) why gig hah (I thought I remembered a wireless HDMI at 12GHz or thereabouts too) wigig, haha short distance, high bandwidth, very directional just...rolls off the tongue i think it can do like 2km? but yeah directional. i think the ultra short distance is for small transmitter/receivers like on phones was excited that the NM brewers guild IPA challenge was going on soon. then found out they changed the venue to my old employer's convention center space, and i'm banned from going there til september because you might be stealing their ideas? Wow, banned? Sounds extreme. they're paranoid i might orchestrate some sort of criminal activity because i knew about surveillance stuff what it's a procedure for anyone in surveillance - they usually only institute a 90 day period, but they gave me a year i thought it was like you might compete with them nah can you get a pass to go to a conference? nope lame and it's criminal trespass if i got caught during the ban period booooooo What if you were parachuting... maybe they can withdraw it? lol brycec: i'm gonna have to find out now if you ask nicely and show about this microbrew thing. Pffft that's exactly when he would strike and carry out his evil plan. i'd have to beg tribal leadership to do it, and they're spiteful dicks and would say no just because well they probably knew he was into microbrewing anyway spiteful dicks is putting it nicely hahaha nah, i didn't have a relationship with coworkers outside of work because i didn't like anyone i worked with m0unds: obvious solution: disable the surveilance systems so you can attend without being caught. freenode is splitting gizmoguy_: lol they don't have anyone there who could fix it gizmoguy_: haha so i'd be in the clear gizmoguy_++ i'll wear a disguise richard nixon mask or something Of course, because resembling characters in Payday2 will draw *no* scrutiny. lol how long does freenode take for split to showup? i'd be surprised if any of them knew what richard nixon looks like $1$.*+ s/looks/looked i'd be surprised if any of them knew what richard nixon looked like i'm surprised people offer to run freenode servers.. with all the ddos's they seem to attract heh has anyone played with non zfs ssd caching on linux? My whole ZFS volume is on SSD :P (not the same, I know) heh apparently lvm's added ssd cache support hmm probably just read bcache means you have to chagne your underlying hard-disk storage bcache sounded like it was ahead.. but whenit makes more drastic changes and you can't go back... and it's new.. erk, lvm cache is per lvm device err per logical volume @weather akl Auckland International, New Zealand: Clear 48°F (9°C), Humidity: 62%, Wind: From the SSE at 7 MPH -- For more details including the forecast and almanac, see http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=-37.00805664,174.79167175 or re-request this with: @weather -v akl
