https://twitter.com/up_the_irons/status/532150148256653313 TWITTER: @groupon You came up with a product named Gnome without knowing of the Gnome Project of the last 17 years, and are now suing them? FUCK YOU. (Tue Nov 11 12:37:36 +0000 2014, in reply to @Groupon) up_the_irons: I just donated. And convinced a bunch of folks in another channel they should donate, even though they don't use GNOME. Because, that's ridiculous. mhoran: awesome thanks. yup, totally ridiculous and the only people that win are the attorneys. I also told everyone at team standup about the issue and asked them to donate. I think they all did! https://twitter.com/coreyhaines/status/532183066479845376 TWITTER: Thought: @grouponeng should use some of its budget to help fight the trademark violations that @groupon is doing with GNOME. (Tue Nov 11 14:48:25 +0000 2014, retweeted 6 times) https://engineering.groupon.com/2014/misc/gnome-foundation-and-groupon-product-names/ It was all just a plot to get donations for systemd. I'm going to donate to OpenBSD again to make up for it. this is a joke right what part? GNOME v GroupOn, or the systemd thing? gnome v groupon sadly no... I'm hearing it from multiple sources in fact, trying to get karen on from SFC (formerly head of GNOME) to talk about this tomorrow on FLOSS Weekly here's the product of conflict: http://gnome.groupon.com their product looks interesting ... http://investor.groupon.com/releasedetail.cfm?releaseid=848707 yeah thats' what i was on first Here's teh conflict: https://gnome.org/groupon/ so yeah, it's real howcome gnome.groupon.com isn't working I know, maybe being ddosed. :) heh (it loaded for me earlier today) (fwiw) Seeing some mixed messages right now... Gnome seems to have their back arched high, and Groupon released a statement saying "be cool, we've been working with them for awhile" https://www.groupon.com/blog/cities/gnome-update now says they've abandoned Gnome (as a patent) (er, trademark) whoa... UPDATE: After additional conversations with the open source community and the Gnome Foundation, we have decided to abandon our pending trademark applications for “Gnome.” We will choose a new name for our product going forward. ... https://www.groupon.com/blog/cities/gnome-update that's why it's gone nice. that's remarkably understanding of them if not, GPL v4 would say "everyone EXCEPT GroupOn can use this" :) hahaha BSD... similar. :) i can't believe they didn't notice the first restriction of the BSD license is... GroupOn can't use this. :) i tried gnome-shell the other week like ABRMS license? linux deskop stuff isn't really amazing. enlightenment seemed to be the best desktop for non-geeky non-tabbed window manager RandalSchwartz: twobithacker mercutio : very cool that they dropped the case so quick. go internet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-147-360 what is the significance of "Vertical" SSD ? I was going to buy more 840 Pro's, but with the 850, I get Assassin's Creed Unity too! anyone have any experience with the 850's? it's about the MLC/tLC topography ie they layer nand on top of other nand i have no experience with 850 pro, but reviews suggest it's marginally faster than 840 pro which was already really pushing against sata 3 limitations. so now they're even closer to sata 3 limitations ah ok last i knew 850 pros had quite a premium over 840 pros but that may have just been to reduce stock http://www.anandtech.com/show/8216/samsung-ssd-850-pro-128gb-256gb-1tb-review-enter-the-3d-era/9 looks like 128gb gets a mild boost and the 256gb boost is easy to get lost in the noise it's only really heavy workload it shows on where normal hard-disks are a couple of orders of magnitude slower mercutio: well, looks like the 840's are sold out on newegg, so i had to order the 850's all good :) it's not a bad thing but 840 pros used to be like $50 cheaper or something yeah amazon keeps going up in price on samsung ssd's recently i left some in my cart but they're listing 850 pro 128gb at $110 and 256gb at $185.85 and 840 pro 256gb at $158 yeah at ~$25'ish diff i'd get what was in stock prob dang, sold out all our dedi's good thing a new chassis is coming i would have thought this time of year would be slow... but it's quite busy up_the_irons: is that what the ssds were for? Congrats, up_the_irons yeah mercutio: yeah brycec: thanks :)
