up_the_irons: no NetBSD iso's in the library? :'* :'( pyvpx: historically NetBSD doesn't really work under KVM, but maybe that has changed. Send in a ticket (support@arpnetworks.com) and we'll add anything you want. :) hmm, what kind of problems? don't remember.. i've tried, some customers have also, we all failed actually, i think one dude got it to work after a TON of work yeah. I just tried with a server in london he had to recompile something after five attempts (ticket for each reboot, brutal) I'm $164 poorer and no closer to a NetBSD/Xen server :p why NetBSD? gah, sorry. I was referring to baremetal over something like iDRAC or IPMI "kvm" :p it works nicely as a xen HVM host at least it did three years ago. and I have a strong need for a performant xen HVM host I would imagine NetBSD would work just fine on baremetal, wherever. ah ok so would I but iDRAC bites the dust. dedicated or shared. ARP's Metal stuff runs a SuperMicro IPMI controller ya :) it's super easy to run netbsd in xen, haven't tried w/kvm oof: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status#NetBSD no smp, no acpi and force nic model ne2k_pci Yikes. You'd think NetBSD would have good support! that's as of 5.0.x though, so it could be better now I guess that's the tradeoff for almost perfect Xen support. yeah, amazingly good xen support They had dom0 support when Linux couldn't even get it right. That was a painful time. hahaha The last time I was a full time sysadmin. runs really well as a domu too Merging in all sorts of patches from the paravirt branch. Since the official kernel was 2.6.18. :( oof I think 3.4 was out at the time or something, and none of the devices on my servers were supported in .18. that sucks That was around the time up_the_irons was all excited about KVM. So I switched to that! That's what she said!! i had seen a fair amount of people having to run openvz inside kvm because the kernels supported by openvz didn't support a ton of modern raid controllers and whatnot Huh. dunno if that's changed at all in the last couple years i guess i'll have to try netbsd on kvm at home. dun dun dunnnn staticsafe: https://soundcloud.com/tycho/black-sunrise-sunrise-dj-set-at-burning-man-2014 SoundCloud: "Black Sunrise - Sunrise DJ Set at Burning Man 2014 by Tycho" by Tycho :o that clark song is awesome, i ended up with it in a playlist i built from spotify radio
